About the event

This event is part of #QatarSustainabilityWeek 2018

Composting is the natural process of decomposition that turns organic materials like garden waste and vegetable food scraps into a dark, crumbly and earthy smelling material called compost. Compost is rich in nutrients and is great for your garden, shrubs or even indoor potted plants.

Do your bit to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. Even for households that are already composting, new research has found that almost half of the food waste in their rubbish bins could have been composted.

When waste is sent to landfill, air cannot get to the organic waste. Therefore as the waste breaks down it creates a harmful greenhouse gas, methane, which damages the Earth's atmosphere. However, when this same waste is composted above ground at home, oxygen helps the waste to decompose aerobically which means hardly any methane is produced, which is good news for the planet.

ABOUT US >

Wa’hab aims to reduce food wastage, by connecting those with surplus food to those who are in need of food. We aim to partner with food outlets and charities to collect the excess food, package it and deliver them to beneficiaries.  This results in optimal usage of food, thus saving the economy a loss in capital. In addition, it reduces wastage at landfills and thus creates a safer environment because of reduced carbon footprint.
